Notes: The earliest date for the John Patterson in Cumberland County, NC is 1753, for land he was granted on Cross Creek. This John Patterson may be related to the other Pattersons of Cumberland County, and he is associated with a Duncan Patterson in an existing Bladen County deed dated 1768. See John's will of 1769. Catherine remarried shortly after John's death to a son of Duncan and Christian Smith Campbell, who had two sons, Archibald and Hugh. Hugh moved to South Carolina by 1802, and Archibald is associated with land on Drowning Creek in the 1770s.
